A camp of Rroma was destroyed in Brescia. This French illness seems to be spreading. The Rroma have appealed to Renzi.
The new mayor of Rome, Virgina Ray is on collision course with Rroma in the capital. Latest issue are statements of one of the councillors, Paula Murano who made statements that Rroma organisations deemed demagogy: Pointing at a Rrom rummaging in a wastebin, she said that is she would do it, she would be arrested, but in the case of Rroma and immigrants, nothing happens.
Rroma organisations wrote to the mayor, saying that there is a phenomenon of poverty, that has nothing to do with the criminalisation of an ethnic minority.

One thing is somewhat missed here: Rroma are still being kept in those camps by an alliance between the State administration, the police and NGOs who are all present there. And the latest arrests in Rome have shown that the mafia hugely profited from these camps too. The comparison to Auschwitz is very much not the right one here.

Mateo Salvini, the leader of the rightist Northern League visited a Rroma camp near Rome. He was promptly insulted by the Rroma there on the basis of his general statements on Rroma.

A Rroma organisation, the association of the 21st of July, is challenging the Italian government to close all remaining camps within 5 years and integrate the Rroma who are currently living there. Knowing that the police, the state, and NGOs all benefited from these camps in Italy, this will be a challenge.

The current president of the International Romani Union, Normunds Rudevics wrote a letter to the Italian authorities protesting the planned evacuation of a camp with 35 Rroma families near Rome.
Several Italian Rroma organizations are protesting the tender for managing segregated Rroma villages that are meant to replace the current squats. This has already been tried in Italy and is the main reason why there are still so many camps around cities and the capital in particular.
A series of articles was published in Italy in the context of the remembrance day of the Holocaust on the 27th of January, explaining that Rroma were also singled out by the Nazis during World War Two. This is not well known in Italy, so GOOD!
An Italian Footballer, Danielle De Rossi, told another one a “shut up, sh*tty Gypsy”. This has at least started a real discussion on racism and prompted requests of a crack down on such comments and behaviour.
