Police in Ostrava-Vítkovice have initiated criminal proceedings against seven individuals aged 18 to 38 for public disorder.

The incident occurred on July 19, following a prior agreement to meet due to a provocative video posted on social media. A confrontation ensued where a group of young men challenged a Romani man to a fight, which he declined, leading to one man brandishing a gas pistol and firing it into the air. The Rom ended up in hospital after having stabbed.

Several articles in the Slovenian press about a violent incident where a 28 years old man was injured and needed to he hospitalised. The attackers were apparently Roma, but the police confirmed that the attack was not random and involved individuals who knew each other.

At the Ljubljana District Court, two Roma, Arsen and Leonardo Novak were sentenced for attacking Ribnica mayor Samo Pogorelc and a policewoman at a firefighter’s party in Ribnica. The former was sentenced to a year and seven months in prison, the latter to a year and three months, according to media reports.

The attack occurred after the mayor had said that he would cut electricity and water to the Roma settlement unless they started to “behave”…
