An open letter from Jana Kokyová, chair of the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust, an association of families of Roma survivors of the Holocaust, to Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (Action of Dissatisfied Citizens – ANO) regarding the transfer of the Roma affairs agenda to the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry. According to her, the Government’s decision undermines the importance of Roma affairs at the central level.

She is right.

Advocate of the Principle of Equality Miha Lobnik submitted his regular annual report for 2025 to the President of the National Assembly Zoran Stevanović. The report shows that discrimination in Slovenia remains present in many areas of life, in work, access to services, healthcare, and education. Prejudices against Roma, LGBTIQ+ people, foreigners, and even religious minorities are growing.

The Slovenian journalist and presenter Rosvita Pesek famous in her country, is currently on vacation in Albania. She describes the latter as a country of differences – on one side, majestic buildings, on the other, unfinished buildings, on one side, greenery, on the other, garbage.

Right from the very beginning, Rosvita Pesek described Albania as “a country of a little less than three million people, of Albanians and Roma”.

On May 20, 2026, the Office of the Government Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic for Roma Communities approved several significant projects aimed at improving the environment and basic infrastructure within several Slovak municipalities and cities. Total financial support reaches more than 1.7 million euros. One of the main activities is the rehabilitation of illegal waste dumps. Funds amounting to almost 750 thousand euros will be allocated to municipalities and cities such as Ulič, Lastovce, Modrý Kameň, Spišský Štiavnik, Olejníkov, Rožkovany and Žiar nad Hronom. These projects will allow the removal of waste from an area exceeding 25 thousand square meters.

He claims that the state has been financing dysfunctional programs for a long time and the solution should be greater involvement of Roma in the work process.

Nikolas Ferenc, an actor and influencer who raises Roma topics on social networks, was the guest of the Klub Rádia Junior. He revealed to the moderator Eva Sinkovičová how he refutes negative prejudices.

As he is of Romani origin, he talks about Roma culture on social media and refutes prejudices. According to Nikolas, people most often think of Roma as thieves and non-workers.

“I try to work with a bit of humor, I try to explain things historically,” he says. He considers the idea that Roma don’t work to be one of the biggest lies. “If Roma didn’t work, we wouldn’t have sewage systems in Prague,” he says, adding that Roma often do jobs that others don’t want to do.

Roma music from different corners of the world, a theatrical story about the Romani partisan Josef Serink, a traditional procession of hundreds of Romani artists through the historical centre of Prague, and debates on topics that move society. The capital will once again transform into the centre of Romani culture in the last week of May. The largest Romani festival in the world – Khamoro – is returning to the metropolis. The twenty-eighth year will offer a total of seven concerts of various genres and about two dozen accompanying events. The festival has been organized by Slovo 21 and Studio Production Saga since 1999. This year’s event was held under the patronage of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel.

The Khamoro World Roma Festival will begin next Sunday, May 24, with a concert on Střelecký Island in Prague. Until Saturday, May 30, the 28th year of the festival will offer seven concerts of various genres and about two dozen accompanying events. President Petr Pavel took over the patronage of this year’s edition.

On May 15th, Dumitru Miclescu passed away at the age of 92.

He was born on March 8th, 1934, and was one of the last Roma Holocaust survivors from Romania who carried within him the living memory of deportation to Transnistria and the suffering endured by Roma families during the genocide of the Roma during the Holocaust.
In 2025, he adressed the world from the the podium of the United Nations General Assembly. Mr. Dumitru Miclescu stood there not only for himself, but for all those who never had the chance to speak. In his testimony, he spoke about the suffering of deportation to Transnistria, to the camps of Vapniarka, Tiraspol, Coronica, and Odessa, and about the way death accompanied Roma families from the very beginning of deportation.
May he rest in peace.

The Montenegrin Roma Council is asking for electoral reform in Montenegro to guarantee the representation of Roma in the parliament. The article here is very critical of this, stating that the Roma Council is acting as a satellite of the Democratic Socialist Party (DPS).

In any case, reserved seats fro minorities are not a solution.

Recently the Romanian church denied its involvement in the slavery, even though the church held Roma slaves.
