A new exhibition in Paris, entitled “Mondes Tsiganes” purportedly tells the story of the “Nomads”, be they Sinti, Manouches, or Roma (Sic.).
Well, it pushes a view full of stereotypes which is historically totally inaccurate.
Shame.

Again a story that plays on the old stereotypes of Roma stealing children. A 3-year-old child who was missing in Poland was found in a Roma neighbourhood in Varna. According to the woman who kept it, the child’s mother had gone to Poland.

The new law against “illegal” camps for travellers in the Canton Bern is a shame. It caters to racism and prejudices all the while depriving travelling Roma (for it is targeted against them) of their livelihood.

“Gadjo Dildo” – a name chosen as a play on the title of Toni Gatlif’s movie “Gadjo Dilo” is a theatre performance based on stories of sexism and racism that Romnja encounter on a daily basis in Romania.
The play can be seen in Cluj and features Elena Duminica, a Romani actress.

The European Roma Right Centre received the European Council’s Wallenberg price for fighting against racism and discrimination.

The European Roma Right Centre (ERRC) is suing the Slovak Interior Ministry for discrimination and the Interior Minsiter Kalinak. The ERRC is arguing that the police is specifically targeting Roma. This comes on the background of the new plan by Kalinak on reducing the Roma criminality.

The Slovak Plenipotnetiary for Roma affairs, Abel Ravasz from the party “Mošt – Hid” gave an interview to the press on his first two years in office.
While he certainly did good things, this latest interview is somewhat puzzling, especially regarding what he says about racism and discrimination of Roma in Slovakia. He says there is no such thing as a racist country and that there is “some discrimination” for Roma in education and work.
We don’t agree here.

A new book was published recently in Mannheim, Germany, on the history of Roma and Sinti in that city and their constant discrimination and persecution.

The movie “Pure Hearts” from Roberto De Paolis tells the story of a young girl educated by a pious single mother who meets a parking guard who works across a Roma camp. And the Roma are there as a background with all stereotypes.
Good movie certainly, but touchy way to show cast Roma.

The new law on Roma community has been undergoing public hearing. During this period, 16 complaints were received at the Nationalities Office on the proposed amendments to the law on the Roma community. While, according to some Romani organizations, there are some positive ideas, others point to an even greater discrimination against the Roma and think that the proposed change in the composition of the Council of the Roma community are not positive.
